Christian says what?
OK...now I'm on a mission. I don't understand what's going on, but I simply cannot find a coherent statement about money from any contemporary sources (Tim Keller gets really close, which is weird because he's in Manhattan). Jesus said more about money than Hell...which do you hear more about from your pastor?
Now, let me begin with confession. I'm particularly obsessed with this topic. I know that I give too much power to money (for good and ill), and I make no excuses. I hope that in the coming weeks as I take the time to understand and write about various views on the subject that God will continue to illuminate scripture in my heart so that this too is broken down.
And that's what I plan to do - primarily as a reference for myself. I'm going to attempt to read and summarize various preachers and authors views of money. Expect to see Keller, Frame, MacArthur, and others among those reviewed. Of course, our example for life is Jesus, and I'll finish at some point in the future by listing a lot of what he says.
People don't seem to want to let scripture be as offensively extreme as it appears to me to be. Sure, they'll get all polemic about sexual sin and spiritual discipline, but money tends to receive many caveats and loopholes such that I would challenge anyone to make a decision based on their words.
I think I'm going to start with John MacArthur. Get ready!
